The Work in progress

At the moment I'm busy with this new work of mine. It's miraculous, how fast the time is running when focusing on stitching. I've been doing Cross stitch a term of eight years already, and these have been the happiest time in my life. I really love to work with shapes and colours.
It also makes me to feel happy I have new plans to change this thread technique to another. I thought to try some Needle lace later, but now I'm using my time with some Cross stitch works for my exhibition in December this year. The exhibition will be in Herttoniemi Hospital in Helsinki.

To change the technique to another is challenging and takes a lot of time and practising. I'm not sure, if my level of creativity is ready for such a big change. It's also a question, how to find materials for doing Needle lace if I'm not going to implement the technique traditionally.

I have to discover from myself again something I've thought is missing.

The squares

I can't resist the little squares with the symbols on my chart on the table and the squares on my aida fabric, the geometrical stitches, which are forming shapes of diversity, the silent darkness of the northern winter night. It's cold outside, but warm and cozy in the home when burning candles and sitting over the embroidery works. It's a feeling of a freedom to compose the thoughts and to concentrate on the work and the mood.
The flowing wawes are taking me towards new solutions, some little things are happening. Time to time the days are bringing something new.

Christmas presents are waiting for wrapping. On Christmas morning I'll visit my daughters family. I come back home before the traffic stops to run and the silence fells upon the town.
We have a beautiful new church in Laajasalo, where I could go to Christmas matins, but the church is so full of people and I would cry all the time during the service, so I rather stay home. Crying and masses of people would make me feel too heavy.
When I'm home, I'm occupied with my geometry and stitches until I fall in sleep perhaps early in the evening.

Alppitähden taimi, Edelweiss plant

Yesterday I wanted to cheer me up a little and I went to a garden store. Prices of plants were very high, and I felt me sad and small. Selection of plants was abundant. I strolled in the garden center a long time. Finally I decided to buy three small Edelweiss plants, Leontopodium alpinum, and went home.

My tiny rock garden is scorched after very dry last summer. There still are some plants alive, but it is so early spring yet, that only few plants turn to green. This moment it's too early to estimate damages there.

I planted my three Edelweiss plants in the garden this morning as you can see in the picture above. It will cost a lot to have two hobbies and it depresses my spirits. But I will feel better, if my Edelweisses will grow and bloom this year and years after too.

Bright light !

Winter starts to turn to it's end in Finland and daylight time is increasing day by day. Volyme of the light has different influences on people.
For me the long and bright daylight time is a challenge.
The light coming through the windows uncovers my shabby home. When it later gets warmer, I need to clean up the windows and that helps decisively. The light will be more welcome.

Now we still have some snow in Southern Finland and ice on the sea. Every day the ice becomes weaker and the sea will be open.

I wait in expectation for the first spring Irises to blossom out from the soil in April. There is so much pleasure to see if the plants have got out of the winter. Every morning early I can go to my tiny rock garden and see the changes there. The nature makes the spring very special and exiting.

I have noticed gladly I have readers around the world and to my foreign visitors I will write in English now and then.

Feel free to write also your own comments, opinions and thoughts in English to me.
